The first winner was Tyler Villegas. Tyler attends Central Dauphin and at the time of his application he had been accepted to Pitt, Drexel, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Shippensburg. He was waiting to hear from Penn State, University of Pennsylvania, Stanford, Princeton, Carnegie Mellon and Cornell. Tyler has a weighted GPA of 99.4 and ranks 13 in a class of 405. In his application he states: “Being part of a computer engineering program would open up worlds of possibilities both for me and what I could accomplish to benefit others. I can only imagine the things I could accomplish after going through such a program as offered at a top university. I would undoubtedly participate in research and take part in a study abroad program. The skills I will learn could help me refine alternative power sources, to help grow abundances of food in impoverished nations, or filter water en mass for those without drink. However, one idea that resonates with me is that of extending life without sickness and suffering by improving medical technology.”

Our second winner for the Gary C. Clemens Scholarship award went to Ally Yoder. Ally addends Central Dauphin High School and has a weighted GPA of 96.3 and ranks 50th in her class of 402. In her scholarship application she states she wants to pursue a career she is passionate about. “As a meteorologist, I want to help people by warning them of any severe weather that could be coming their way. This scholarship will allow me to pursue my dream career as a meteorologist with a minimal amount of debt after graduation.” #recognizingexcellence #scholarshipwinners
